Paragraph formatting

Paragraph formating structures allow you to format the overall look and fell of the document. They are usually applied to whole blocks of text that is to be grouped together with no new line inbetween. When designing a document you should have the positions of the paragraph blocks in mind before considering the look of the text itself. Paragraph formatting tags have several common features these are...

• They usually apply to blocks of text and inbetween the start and end tags, any new line characters are ignored. The exacptions to these rules are the <BR> and <PRE> tags.
• Paragraphs have a half line space to the nearest text above and below, the exception to this is the <BR> tag which is in itself a line break.
• They don't tend to affect the style or colour of the font that is being used (although the <H1..6> tags do affect it to an extent but still no full control over the style).

Once the paragraphs have been set up in your document, it is time to consider how to format the text to get the exact look and fell you are looking for.
